Okowa targets N4bn from land administration in 2018

Delta Commissioner for Land and Survey Chika Ossai

Delta State Commissioner for Land and Survey, Mr Chika Ossai, has said that the State Government is targeting the sum N4 billion as revenue generated from Land and Survey administration in 2018 as against the sum of N3 billion generated from same between May 2015 and the end of 2017.

He said that this projection in the present fiscal year is made possible because of some unique innovations introduced by the government to facilitate the work of the Ministry.

At a Ministerial Press Briefing in Asaba, Ossai said that there has been a steady increase in revenue generation since 2015, when Governor Ifeanyi Okowa assumed office, due to new innovations.

He specifically noted that increase in revenue generation was as a result of the introduction of Fast Track 90, an organ of the ministry geared towards land regularisation by property owners.

He listed other innovations to include establishment of an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centre, migration of all existing applications for Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) to a new electronic platform, digitalisation of existing C of O and introduction of electronic consent letter with security features.

Others are regularisation of government illegal occupied land and establishment of Ground rent Task Force and State Committee on ground rent.

Besides, the Ministry gives utmost concern to boundary survey as regards different communities involved in land disputes. Ossai noted that the Boundary Committee has visited communities with such disputes to provide a lasting solution to the communal crisis in the State.

The Commissioner stated that ground rent is a compulsory thing. He said it is the duty of land users to pay ground rent to enable government carry out its constitutional obligations.
