Nigerian troops on the offensive against Boko Haram terrorists
The Nigerian Army has spoken of its resolve to wipe out the remnants ofBokoHaraminsurgents within the four months that the ongoing Operation 'LAST HOLD' in the North East of the countryis scheduledto last.
Toensurethat the operation achieves the desired result, “additional troops and heavy equipmenthave been earmarkedto beef up those already deployed. Troops and equipment are already assembling foronwardmovement to the operation area,” Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General TexasChukwu, said in a statement obtained byNews Expresson Saturday.
“The operation expected to last four months entails the deploymentofadditionalfourmanoeuvrebrigades. The end state of Operation LAST HOLD is the total defeat ofBokoHaramTerrorists tofacilitatethe restoration offishing, farming and other economic activities in the Lake Chad Basin general area,”Chukwudisclosed.
According to him, “The operation which is a major military exercise has Major General AbbaDikkoas its Commander. The senior officer is already ongroundcoordinatingthe movement oftroops and equipment.
“Members of thegeneral publicand particularly residents around troops’ staging areas and environsare advisednot to panic on sighting mass movement of troops and equipment as their safetyis guaranteed.
“The Nigerian Army wishes to reiterate its loyalty and subordination to the civil authority at all times while carrying out its constitutional roles.”
