AGN President Emeka Rollas Ejezie
President, Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) Emeka Rollas Ejezie has promised to work hard on delimiting the weaknesses that threaten the cohesion and development of the Trade and Guild as he embarks on the process of repositioning the Association.
In a press briefing in Lagos recently, the President said that the need to rebrand the AGN comes from a burden of the effects of the rancour and disunity which has plagued the leadership and permeated the membership “of our noble Guild in the past.”
He noted that “Following the August 2017 Peace and Reconciliation Conference in Enugu and the consequent national appointment of Government of National Unity in which I emerged as the National President, My National Executive and I have sought to build on the strengths of our Guild, and as such we have proactively embarked on the critical process of consolidating an effective and responsive administration while we are exerting measurable effort to build capacities across board in the Guild so that we can boost our potential as a major player in Nigeria’s fast-growing creative economy.
“The Actors Guild of Nigeria is the umbrella body for all Screen Actors in Nigeria with a membership of over one hundred and fifty thousand (N150,000) practitioners in thirty-two States of the Federation including the Federal Capital Territory,” he said, adding, “this makes the AGN perhaps the largest Association of Professional Interests in the Nigerian Culture Sector and the Guild is also a proud affiliate of Federation Of International Actors (FIA)
Ejezie said that going by available statistics, the AGN is in a position of comparative and strategic advantage to engage meaningfully with stakeholders such as government, the organised private sector and relevant international development organizations explaining that his administration intends to fully maximize this potential.
“This rebranding/unveiling exercise is expected to achieve the following: Showcase the new AGN identity card, unveil the new logo of AGN, introduce the new AGN General Insurance product, introduce the AGN Strategic Plan to the media, unveil the new AGN mobile APP with payment gateway/website and showcase its interactivity as well as introduce a unified AGN devoid of rancor to the general public.
“The significance of this event can best be appreciated considering the fact that after a history of several years of rancour, our great Guild is publicly uniting to chart a new path forward. “We believe very firmly, that to get to where we need to as a nation, all hands must be on deck to deal with the issues,” the President said, adding “this includes the public and private sectors, civil society, Nigerians and of course you, the Press and Media who are the fourth estate of the realm.”
“Our faith in the possibility of a better Nigeria is unshakable and we trust that together with the Media, a significant contribution can be made to the changes we desire in values, attitudes and determination to ensure development in Nigeria. “On behalf of the Board of Trustees, our National Executive Council, chairmen of the state chapters and the membership of Actors Guild of Nigeria, I thank Universal Insurance PLC for believing in this partnership. We, therefore, invite you as our Partners and Joint Stakeholders in the Nigeria project, to give this event the necessary maximum publicity, to create awareness and a better understanding of the important role we can play in building a better Nigeria,” he declared.
