Governor Obiano
The Anambra Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, Awka,on Mondayfixed April 30, for a hearing of the suit, filed by Praise Okechukwu of Mega People Progressives Party (MPPP), seeking nullification of Gov. Willie Obiano’s election.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), recalled that Obiano, of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), won the Nov. 18, 2017 governorship election in Anambra.
Okechukwu, who is also seeking cancellation of the election, joined APGA and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as respondents in the petition.
Justice H. A. Olusiyi, chairman of the tribunal, who fixed the date after listening to the submission of the petition’s counsel, however, struck out an application filed by Okechukwu to amend some reliefs.
Counsel to the petitioner, Nkem Ekweozoh, had on April 17 filed an application to amend some parts of reliefs, including the annulment of theNov. 18election in Anambra and order a fresh contest.
She said Obiano was not qualified to participate in that poll as he was not legitimately nominated by his party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance.
Olusiyi said that the application ran contrary to the Electoral Act, and therefore incompetence, and struck it out.
He adjourned the case untilApril 30for hearing of the substantive suit.
