2019: Nobody will contest against Buhari in Enugu, says APC

Enugu APC Chairman, Dr Ben Nwoye

The Enugu State Chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has declared that nobody from the state would contest the party’s ticket against President Muhammadu Buhari.

This is as the party lauded Buhari for seeking another four-year term in office, saying with optimism that the President would be re-elected come 2019.

The above position was disclosed by the chairman of the APC in Enugu State, Dr. Ben Nwoye, who expressed happiness over the decision of President Buhari to seek a second tenure in 2019.

Nwoye gave the assurance on Wednesday while speaking to journalists on arrival at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu after the meeting of the National Executive Committee, (NEC) of the party held in Abuja last Monday.

He recalled that the APC in the state was the first to endorse President Buhari for second tenure, pointing out that the decision of the President to seek re-election was for the best interest of the country and not for selfish desire.

When asked to comment on low performance of APC in Southeast geo-political zone, Nwonye insisted that the 2015 Presidential election in Enugu was manipulated and rigged by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stressing, however, that “the APC did their best to prevent opponents of Buhari from committing election irregularities in the state.

He, however, assured that President Buhari would perform well in Enugu State come 2019, pointing out that the situation on ground now was different from the situation before the president assumed office.

“We will not have any candidate of APC extraction to challenge Buhari here in Enugu State. Enugu State APC was the first to endorse President Buhari for second term in office. His decision to contest for second tenure is not a selfish desire, and for that you are going to see a different thing in terms of the result,” Nwoye stated.

On what transpired at the National Executive Working Committee, Nwoye expressed happiness over the peaceful way the meeting resolved issues, expressing optimism that the APC would continue to grow from strength to strength across the country.
