Shuaibu Ibrahim, Council Chairman, Koko/Besse Local Government in Kebbi State, has disclosed reasons for resigning from his position as Council chairman.
Mr. Ibrahim earlieron Tuesdayresigned from his position as Council Chairman at a Council Meeting.
Bashir Muhammad, Personal Assistant to the Chairman, confirmed the resignation.
He said the chairman announced his resignation after a council meeting with his councilors at the local Government Secretariat.
The chairman, in a copy of the letter of resignation dated Tuesday, 3rd April, 2018, made available to our reporter, said he resigned based on personal reasons.
He wrote: “I, Shuaibu Ibrahim, chairman Koko Besse Local Government hereby resign from my office as the elected Chairman of Koko Bese local government council.
“I was elected to serve as chairman Koko Besse local Government From 2017 to 2019 for a two year tenure in Office but base on personal ground, I hereby resign from my office as elected Chairman of the said local government, with effect from today 3/4/2018,” the two-paragraph letter of resignation, personally signed by the chairman read.”
One of the councilors who attended the meeting however, said: “The reasons he gave us for resigning was that, he has failed to fulfill promises made to people of the local government due to ‘starvation’ of funds from the state government to perform his responsibility among others.
“He thanked the state government, the state assembly, Ibrahim Bagudu (brother to the state governor), the people of the local government and many others for giving him the opportunity to serve.”
The councilor denied allegation that the chairman was removed by the councilors, arguing: “There was actually a move by the state government to arrange for that and make us (councilors) announce that we impeached him. But that is not true; the chairman resigned on his own this morning.”
