Acting Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Dr. (Mrs.) Sarah Alade, has landed in Lagos to inspect the Bank’s former headquarters (prior to the relocation to the country’s capital, Abuja) which was gutted by fire yesterday evening.
The Acting Governor arrived a few minutes ago, accompanied by CBN Deputy Governor in charge of Corporate Services, Alhaji Suleiman Barau, and Acting Director, Director, Corporate Communications, Isaac Okorafor, among others.
A competent CBN source who spoke with News Express said the Acting Governor decided to shelve other matters and be in Lagos to personally assess the extent of damage caused by the fire.
“The Acting Governor will address the press after the inspection, at about 11:30 a.m.,” the source disclosed.
The apex bank had last night assured that there is nothing to worry about the fire incident as its records are intact.
“The fire, which occurred on the first floor of the building, has been put out by a combined team of fire fighters from the CBN and other institutions,” Mr. Okorafor had said in a statement, adding:
“We wish to assure our numerous stakeholders that the records of the bank are intact as the Bank has an effective backup of all its records, as part of our disaster recovery programme.”
