The Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Thursday night in Abuja disclosed that it has achieved a milestone of 3000th export cargo to its worldwide customers.
NLNG Limited exported its first cargo in 1999 to France, 100th cargo in 2001, 1000th in 2006 and 2000th in 2010.
At an event to reward the major impact makers and loyal customers, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of LNG, Mr. Babs Omotowa, said the company made the achievement when it delivered a cargo to turkey on board own ship, LNG Lokoja.
NLNG is one of the leading LNG companies in the world, contributing over seven per cent of the world consumption is also ranked fifth in the world.
Addressing the gathering at Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Mr. Omotowa noted that the result of the various reforms in the industry is evident, as seen in the reduction of over four trillion cubic feet of Associated Natural Gas, thus helping to reduce gas glaring by upstream companies from over 60 per cent to less than 25 per cent.
At the occasion, the Chairman, Board of Director, Dr. Osobonye Longjohn, described the achievement as a significant milestone targeted at complementing Nigeria’s centenary celebration, President Goodluck Jonathan’s Transformation Agenda and also a reflection of the great potentials abound in the industry.
In the area of corporate social responsibility, Dr. Osobonye commended the management of for its initiatives to give back to the society, especially the host community for its support and care.
NLNG is a company set up to harness Nigeria’s vast gas resource and produce liquefied natural gas. It is owned by four shareholders: Federal Government of Nigeria, represented by NNPC (49%); Shell (25.6%); Total LNG Nigeria Limited (15%); and Eni (10.4%)
