Ijaws in Edo State have decried what they described as political enslavement in Ovia South-West, Ovia North-East and Ikpoba-Okha local government areas of the state.
They asserted that it is the turn of Ijaws in such LGAs to produce the next council chairmen.
While recently addressing newsmen, the leadership of Ajakurama Voice, led by Comrade Mingo Friday, called on Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, “to address the political imbalance among the Ijaws in the state by allowing Ijaws to produce LGA chairmen in three LGAs Ijaws are predominant.”
He pointed out that since the creation of the state, the Ijaws who occupy Ovia South-West, Ovia North-East and Ikpoba-Okha LGAs have not been allowed to produce the LGA chairmen, but that the positions have been consistently occupied by the Binis.
Comr Friday stressed that “Ijaws should be allowed to produce chairmen in the three Ijaw-predominant LGAs” and that “the Binis should be contented with their four LGAs, namely Oredo, Uhunwode, Orhiomwon and Egor.”
“This is injustice to man; we have been enduring it for years in Edo State,” the Ajakurama Voice leader further said, adding: “Ijaw man has never been a local government chairman, vice chairman, secretary, except councillorship positions for the three LGAs. This is political slavery, it must stop!”
