The police in Anambra State has assured of adequate security during the burial, today, of Chief Cyprian Ikegwuonu, father of Chief Alloysius Ikegwuonu (a.k.a Bishop), who died during the August 6, 2017, church massacre in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of the state.
A statement issued on Thursday by the state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nkeiruka Nwode, said that 500 rank and file officers have been deployed for the burial of Bishop’s father.
The 75-year-old community leader was one of the 13 persons killed while scores of others sustained varying degrees of injuries when unknown gunmen invaded Saint Philip’s Catholic Church, shooting sporadically at worshippers.
Nwode said the command was not taking any chances in ensuring that there was no repeat of August 6 bloody incident.
She added: “What happened on that fateful day was unfortunate and the command does not want to encounter such again in this state or elsewhere.
“Every single person or group coming for the burial will be adequately secured because the command sees the security of its citizenry as the number one priority.”
