The Bayelsa State Executive Council (SEC) on Wednesday resumed formally after the Christmas and New Year festivities with a promise to Bayelsans to expect the completion and commissioning of major projects of the‎ government this year.

Governor Seriake Dickson, who presided over the meeting, said the full implementation of the ongoing public sector reforms wi‎ll also take place this year as the government begins a wind down of its second term with the determination and focus to finish well and strong.

Addressing journalists after the 86th council meeting ‎of the state, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, said Gov. Dickson used the opportunity to welcome council members back from the holidays and charged them to be prepared for more work.

He said the governor also‎ assigned the responsibility of overseeing the Ministry of Transport and that of Trade, Industry and Investment ‎to Dauprebo Ikuromo and Duate Iyabi following the existing vacancies.

Iyabi is the current Chief Economic Adviser to the governor while‎ Ikuromo is the Commissioner for Special Duties representing Bayelsa East senatorial zone in the state executive council.

Iworiso-Markson also disclosed that a minute silence was held in honour of two former members of the council, Ayakame Massa and‎ Francis Egele (SAN) who passed on recently.

The ‎Information Commissioner thanked Bayelsans for the support they gave to the government in the previous year and assured that the government will not relent to do more as it vigorously pursues its restoration agenda.

“Basically, His Excellency just welcomed all council members back from the Christmas and New Year break‎. He also assigned the task of overseeing two key ministries; that of Transport and the other Trade, Industry and Investment.

“Like you know the Ministry of Transport has been vacant for a while, while the other ministry became vacant following the elevation of the Commissioner, Barr. Kemela Okara, as the new Secretary to the State Government.

“As you all may have heard, we lost two former members of the executive council and for this a minute silence was held in their honour while it was agreed that government will play a major role in their burials,” he said.
