The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra has said that a total of 21 crashes were recorded in the state during the Christmas celebrations.
Disclosing this in Awka on Tuesday, the Corps Commander, Mr. Sunday Ajayi, explained that five of the crashes were fatal while 11 lives were lost.
Ajayi, who said that 70 motorists were arrested for overloading, noted that the robust enforcement embarked upon by the officers and men of the corps made them to adjust accordingly.
According to him, the usual gridlock usually experienced along the Niger Bridge by motorists during the period was significantly reduced due to massive deployment of officers and men of the corps as well as sister security agencies.
The state Corps Commander said: “All obstructions on the bridge as well as other strategic locations were removed before the celebrations and that helped.”
He urged motorists and other road users in the state to continue to obey traffic rules and regulations so as to ensure safety on the roads in the state.
