Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen have attacked Luru community in Girei Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

The attack, which took place on Friday night, was confirmed to Channels Television by the Commissioner of Police in the state, Abdullahi Yerima.

Yerima, however, said the Police were yet to ascertain if there was any casualty in the incident.

The attack followed the reported herdsmen invasion of Mbang and Baga villages in Numan LGA.

It also came hours after the Inspector General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris met with President Muhammadu Buhari over the killings in Benue and Rivers States, and other parts of the country.

Idris had told State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa in Abuja that the Police were working hard to address the issues.

He attributed the crises to communal misunderstanding in the affected communities and maintained that “Nigeria is well secured”.

Meanwhile, suspected herdsmen launched a renewed attack on Tombu village in Logo LGA of Benue State.

While the Police are yet to confirm the incident, Governor Samuel Ortom told Channels Television that 11 persons were killed in the fresh attack.

He said: “Two days back, four persons were killed in Guma LGA, and this has continued.”

Ortom, who held an emergency meeting with the joint socio-cultural groups in the state, lamented that more than 40,000 people had been displaced for fear of unprovoked attacks. (Channels TV)
