Governor Ishaku
A security personnel lost his life while two others sustained life threatening injuries Thursday evening when the vehicle in which they were travelling in the convoy of Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishaku, crashed along the Bali-Jalingo road.
The accident, which occurred at about 4.45p.m. between Bali and Garba Chedde was said to have occurred when one of the tyres of the vehicle burst and the driver lost control of the vehicle.
The deceased, an intelligence officer attached to the governor’s wife, Mrs. Anna Ishaku, was the Chief Detail of the first lady while among those injured is another officer attached to the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) and a nurse.
The remains of the deceased whose identity is yet to be made public, has been deposited at the morgue of Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo while those injured are equally receiving medical attention at the accident and emergency of the hospital.
An eyewitness who craved anonymity told THISDAY that the governor was returning to Jalingo from Takum where he had celebrated the Christmas and new year celebrations.
He further revealed that the crashed vehicle, a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), was far behind the vehicle conveying the governor and his wife before veering of the road when it had a tyre burst.
According to the eyewitness, “It’s a sad day for us. A CIB personnel who works with the wife of the governor as chief detail died instantly in the accident. A lady colleague of his and a nurse attached to the governor’s wife are all unconscious as I speak,” he said.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the state police command, David Misal, confirmed the accident and the death of the police officer but declined to give further details.
However, when contacted on phone, Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Media and Publicity, Mr. Bala Dan Abu, claimed ignorance of the accident.
Dan Abu, who was also in the convoy when the accident occurred, said several people were calling him to make enquiries but insisted nothing of such happened.
“I drove to Jalingo on the same convoy and I can tell you that nothing like that happened. We all came into Jalingo together. People have been calling me about the accident, but I can tell you nothing like that happened.”
