The Catholic Bishop of Kafanchan, Danlami Bagobiri, has declared that Nigeria is not an ungovernable country despite its current economic, socio-political and security challenges.
He stated this at his official resident in Madakiya, Zango Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State during a New Year visit by Shehu Sani, Senator representing Kaduna Central on Monday.
“When you set out to rule the country with fairness and justice, everything will fall in shape. But when you deliberately set out for evil things, everything falls apart,” he said.
The Bishop described the Senator as the conscience of the Nigerian Senate and Kaduna State.
"Within our Diocese anytime your comment is on social media, we are happy and thankful to you. We see lots of hope for our nation and our state in particular.
“I want to express my great delight for meeting you for the first time; and I assure you of our prayers. You have been doing a wonderful job. As religious leaders we will do our best in ensuring our people are saved from any evil agenda,” Bagobiri added.
Earlier in his remarks, the Senator said Southern Kaduna has suffered lots of bloodshed for the past three years.
“What should matter to your people should be who is going to add value to their lives. You people that are religious leaders have a moral burden and a duty to lead your people to freedom when they are in bondage. You also have a duty to show them where they should go and where they should not go.”
He added that the people of the area have a duty to cast a light into their lives to be able to see beyond what somebody will tell them.
The Senator also described the Bishop as “the voice and a moral conscience of the people. My most impressive position on you is the ability to speak the truth irrespective of power, irrespective of whose ox is gored. By your position, calling people in position of power to account for their responsibility has earned you respect not only within your people but outside this cycle.”
“All my life, I have been an activist and that could be seen from the way I conduct myself, Politicians cannot call white, white or black, black, they have other colours. They are used to deceiving people, making pledges and promises without fulfilling it. They will say that is politics,” the Senator added.
He assured the Bishop that, “those qualities, component characters and tendencies in me, I shall not in any circumstances betray them.”
