Committee Chairman, Senator Dino Melaye
The Ad-hoc Committee set up to investigate the wastage of goods seized by the Nigerian Customs Service has promised to carry out its mandate with “sincerity of purpose and commitment.”
The Committee also assured Nigerians that there will be “results without compromise.”
Speaking at a press conference, the Ad-hoc Committee through its Chairman, Senator Dino Melaye of Kogi West, assured Nigerians that anyone found wanting in course of their investigation would not be spared.
He said: “This committee will visit all warehouses in the country and we are using this opportunity to call for cooperation from the Nigerian Customs Service. I want to announce that no stone will be left unturned. At the end of the day, Nigerians will be the ultimate winners and beneficiaries.
“We cannot have items stocked in warehouses across the country when there is hunger in the land. In the course of our responsibilities, anyone found wanting will face the wrath of the law as we will not shy from making stiff recommendations where necessary.
“Let me announce that where heads are supposed to roll, heads will roll.”
The Ad-hoc Committee also used the opportunity to inform the public that its members are going to sacrifice their Christmas break to carry out their assignment.
Recall that the Senate on Wednesday resolved to set up an ad-hoc Committee to investigate the wastage of seized perishable goods at custom’s warehouses.
The decision of the Senate followed a motion moved by Senator Mohammed Hassan from Yobe State on the “urgent need to investigate and curtail the on-going monumental economic waste at the Nigerian Customs Service.”
