Anambra guber: Obiano humiliated other contestants by winning all the 21 LGs — Edochie

Defeated Anambra governorship candidate Yul Edochie

Mr. Yul Edochie,the Governorship candidate of the Democratic Peoples’ Congress (DPC) in the just-concluded governorship election in Anambra State, on Sunday said that although he lost, he had no regret contesting for the election that saw the incumbent Governor, Willie Obiano emerged winner.

Edochie, who spoke in Awka at the occasion of the inauguration of the newly elected Coordinator of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Zone B in Awka, noted that it was unprecedented for the Governor to win the 21 Local Government Areas in the state, adding that he has humiliated all other candidates including himself.

The Nollywood actor said: “Gov. Willie Obiano dealt with all of us because I know that it is not easy for a candidate to win the 21 Local Government Areas in a state like Anambra. So, we congratulate him and now that the election is over, what remains is for us to support him and his government.

“I did not lose the election but I contested to give Nigerian youths a voice.

“I am fulfilled that we represented the voice of the youths in Anambra State.

“We won the election by getting to the end of the election without surrendering to anybody against all odds and pressure.

“I am calling on all of us to support the winner to ensure that the next four years will be better for the entire Anambra people.”

He also charged the new leadership of NANS Zone B, which comprised of all the tertiary institutions in the South East and South South areas, to work assiduously towards eradicating cultism in schools saying that such act was an evil wind that blew no good.

Inaugurating the new executives, led by Comrade Kenneth, the Special Assistant to Governor Willie Obiano on Political Matters, Comrade Chinedu Obidigwe commended the new leaders for their emergence at the Bayelsa State congress.

He urged them to ensure that every tertiary institution in the zone was carried along.

While calling on them to be good citizens of the country by shunning any act of violence that could mar their future, Obidigwe, who was represented by Barrister Chika Nzelu assured the students of Obiano’s support to their course.

On his part, the governor’s Special Assistant on Students Matters, Comrade Sheriff Emeka Eboh prayed the new leaders not to disappoint Nigerian students but lift the zone higher than they met it.

He told the students that Governor Obiano has given a nod to the immediate commencement of the NANS Zone B unity cup competition.

He also hinted the new executive on Governor Obiano’s determination to partner Nigerian students achieve their goals.

In his acceptance speech, the new Coordinator reinstated his commitment to wiping out cultism in tertiary institutions within the zone, insisting that it would no longer be business as usual.

He added: “We will also take fight against prostitutions, robbery and other anti social vices to campuses in the zone to ensure that we use the association to sanitise our tertiary institutions.”
