Sevenofficialsof theMedical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MHWUN) from Federal Medical Centres and teaching hospitals across the country have been reported killed in an auto crasharound Likoro, along Kano-Kaduna expressway.
Ayuba M. Suleiman,MHWUNChairman, who spoke to our reporter, said the bus of the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Dala, conveying 14 officials involved in the accident, lost control and somersaulted while trying to avoid a pothole around 2pm near Likoro.
“Seven of them died, five sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at Ahmadu Bello Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Shika, Zaria, while two others, who escaped unhurt, even helped us in evacuating the dead and those injured to ABUTH.
“They were on their way to Keffi, Nasarawa State to attend a two-day meeting of MHWUN of National Tertiary Institutions across the country,” he explained.
The Chairman gave the names of those who died as follows:

Yusuf Shuaibu, Chairman, Federal Medical Centre Nguru, Yobe State
Comrade Saidu, Secretary, National Orthopaedic Hospital, Dala, Kano
Kabiru Sunusi Wakili, Chairman, Federal Medical Centre, Birnin Kudu, Jigawa State
Nasiru Musa Ayuba, Secretary, Federal Medical Centre, Birnin Kudu, Jigawa State
Comrade Kabiru, Secretary, Federal Medical Centre, Katsina State
Ibrahim Umar, Kaduna State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, confirmed the accident to our reporter.
