Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi
The Federal Ministry of Transportation, in partnership with the Nigeria Police and other relevant stakeholders, has developed a technological based transport security system that will see all road transport operators in Nigeria captured on common user data base.
Beyond generating database, the technology will also curtail the menace of road transport related crimes such as kidnapping, ‘one chance’ assault and touting in motor parks.
The project is being driven by the Committee for Transport short code *735# and Transport Social Media (TSM) recently inaugurated by the Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi.
The committee members are drawn from the Nigeria Police, the State Security Service (SSS), Federal Road Safety Commission, Nigerian Civil Defence and Safety Corps, Nigeria Fire Service, Nigerian Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Association of Commercial Motor Cycle Owners and Repairs of Nigeria (ACOMORAN) and Nigeria Association of Road Transport Owner (NARTO).
Others are; Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) and a representative of the National Security Adviser (NSA).
The Director, Road Transport and Mass Transit Administration in the Ministry, Dr. Anthony A. Ekpa is the Chairperson of the committee. (Daily Trust)
