Kaduna Electric MD, Engineer Haruna Garba
Managing Director of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company, has identified customer apathy towards payment of electricity bill, energy theft and vandalism of power supply assets as the major challenges hindering efficient service delivering and meaningful capital investment in the sector.
He spoke on Thursday in Kaduna while receiving the leadership of Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Kaduna State Chapter, which paid a courtesy visit to the Head Office of the company.
“The integrity of power supply infrastructure and energy meters must be protected by all to achieve the desired sustainable development in the nation’s power sector,” Garba said.
He tasked Nigerian women journalists to champion the cause of truthfulness, fair and objective journalism while discharging their duties.
Garba also called on NAWOJ to support the sector by constantly enlightening the public on the paradigm shift from inefficient and poorly managed government owned establishment to efficient private sector driven industry.
“The people must be made to understand that the sector has been privatised to engender efficiency and sustainable development in the sector,” he said.
Earlier, the chairperson of the Association, Juliet Oyoyo, disclosed that NAWOJ Kaduna State Chapter has maintained the highest professional standards among its members and called for more collaboration between the Electricity Company and the Association.
“As partners in progress, we urge the Management of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company to always call on us to assist in the dissemination of information to the populace for better understanding and customer’s relationship,” she stated.
