The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has finalised plans to introduce a new employment creation scheme known as the Sustainable Agricultural Development Training Scheme (SADTS).
The scheme which will be pilot-tested in 19 states of the federation and the FCT is to enhance food production, employment and wealth creation.
The Sustainable Agriculture Development Training Scheme is an agricultural production and distribution system that seeks to provide more profitable farm income, promote environmental stewardship and enhance quality of life for farm families and communities.
This new NDE scheme will involve three approaches, which include: field training; trainee farmer’s mentorship and linkages with development and money deposit banks and identification of off-takers.
Twenty states will benefit from the first phase of the NDE training, and the states are Abia, Anambra, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Gombe and Jigawa.
Others are Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Kwara, Niger, Ondo, Osun, Plateau, Taraba and the FCT.
The training will involve 30 unemployed graduates and school leavers from each of the benefiting states totalling 6001. The official flag-off of this NDE training scheme will be performed in Katsina State next week. (Nigerian Tribune)
