The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has called on the Kaduna State Government to reconsider a circular it issued in respect of restructuring and staffing, or risk provoking the workers.
The union in a communique signed by the State Secretary, Terry Henry, at the end of an emergency state executive council meeting on Sunday in Kaduna, stressed that no local government worker is redundant.
The union appealed to the State Government to reconsider this circular “Restructuring and Staffing 2017” and revert to status – quo for industrial harmony.
“The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees urge the State Government to reconsider this circular “Restructuring and Staffing 2017”and revert to status – quo for industrial harmony.
“The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, Kaduna Branch, held an Emergency State Executive Council meeting on 27th October, 2017 at the Union’s State Secretariat, Kaduna.
“Issues of paramount importance were discussed including the receipt of a circular from the State, Government, on Restructuring and Staffing Order 2017.”
“As a Union, we are calling on all Staff to be law abiding as the Union is doing all it can to dialogue with the State Government to resolve the issue amicably. As workers Union, we believe no Local Government worker is redundant.
“Local Government workers are discipline, intelligent; and hard working people, hence it is not fair for anyone to refer to them as redundant. Local Government workers seem to be redundant because their work has been hijacked by the State Government by way of introducing private consultants,” it said.
NULGE said that this government came with a mandate of change and to improve the security situation of the State, but from the look of things, the reverse is the case.
“By this action, crime rate will be on the increase,” it said.
“Therefore, the leadership of our great Union is appealing to our teaming members to remain calm as we dialogue with the Government,” it concluded.
