Biafra Nations Youth League (BNYL) has reacted to a recent claim by former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, to the effect that the Nigerian Civil War was caused by lies told by the late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, describing the claim as false.

The group declared that the war was rather caused by the failure of Gowon and the Supreme Military Council to stop the killing of Easterners in the North.

The BNYL leader, Princewill Obuka, debunked the claim, noting that history recorded that Ojukwu floored Gowon at the Aburi Conference in Ghana where the former Head of State and the Supreme Military Council accepted the outcome of the meeting.

He recalled that, however, Gowon “being illiterate at the time, did not understand what Confederation was all about until he was told during his return to Lagos.”

Obuka said: “The former Head of State being a junior to Ojukwu is not supposed to remind us of the Aburi Accord where he failed woefully.”
