Daughter of Nigeria’s former Vice-President, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, has said that nobody persuaded her to run as deputy to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the November 18, governorship election in Anambra State, Mr. Oseloka Obaze.

Lady Chidi Alexandria Onyemelukwe, who spoke in an interview in Awka maintained that it was God who gave her the conviction she needed to offer herself to serve adding that Obaze’s antecedents also played a major role.

While describing Obaze as a man of integrity, she explained that he had proved himself during his services at the United Nations (UN) and later as Secretary to the Anambra State Government (SSG).

Lady Onyemelukwe also expressed confidence that Anambra State would experience an unprecedented transformation under their administration.

According to her, the core values that would underline the PDP administration in the state under Obaze as Governor and herself as Deputy Governor are accountability, integrity, equity and transparency.

She, however, debunked insinuations by the opposition that their administration would become a stooge to former Governor Peter Obi if inaugurated, saying: “Mr. Oseloka Obaze and myself will be held responsible by the people of the state for whatever happens under our administration.”

She added: “Mr. Obi has the best interest of Anambra State at heart. When he was Governor for eight years, the state faired a lot better. Anambra State was placed in a prime position in education in this country. And as you know, the PDP governorship candidate, Mr. Oseloka Obaze was the SSG under that administration.

“This is why in our manifesto we have adopted the United Nations template for education; we are allocating 26 percent of the state annual budget to education. And the PDP government of Mr. Obaze will offer scholarship up to JSS3.

“If elected, our administration would bring back the culture of frugality which underlined the former Governor Obi administration, re-introduce aged-persons allowance as well as establish a Charity Health Fund where the state government and individuals would donate money to assist indigent persons to access health services.”

Lady Onyemelukwe further said that a PDP government under Obaze and herself would run a participatory government where every part of the state would be treated equal in the distribution of the state’s commonwealth, adding that the administration would use employment creation and education to fight crimes, among others.
