The Senate Committee on Works has commended the Zamfara State government for the construction of federal government roads in the state.
The Chairman of the Committee, Senator Kabiru Gaya said this in Gummi, Gummi Local Government Area of the state while inspecting the federal government roads projects in the state on Tuesday.
He said: “What we have seen in Zamfara is a commendable efforts. We have seen the federal government roads reconstructed by the state government.
“Various communities are now been connected with these roads. It has reduced various problems of poor road networks that have been affecting our people and we believe that with this effort, it will continue to improve the lives our people.
“On behalf of the Senate, we are happy with this performance. We are calling on other governors to emulate Governor Abdulaziz Yari's intervention to Federal Government projects.
“If our governors can do such interventions, it will reduce much work by the Federal Government, as he executed this projects now. Instead of Federal Government to embark on the construction of these roads it will now pay the state,” he said.
Responding, the Chairman of the state government Projects Monitoring Committee, Alhaji Lawal Liman said the government spent billions of Naira to construct the federal roads in the state in order to reduce problems of poor road networks affecting the people of the state.
Liman, who is the Commissioner for Rural and Community Development, said that when the present administration in the state came in to power, almost all the roads including the state and federal government own were in the state of dilapidation.
“We embarked on reconstruction of all these roads in the state in line with our policy to improve the quality of our people,” he said.
Liman listed the federal roads reconstructed by the state government as: Sokoto border to Dakitakwas and Kebbi border, Mayanchi Dakitakwas Road, Gusau Kasuwar Daji-Kauran Namoda Road, Kauran-Namoda Gidan-Jaja to Katsina border road.
Others included: Wanke-Keta-Danjib-Kicheri Road and Magami Dindin-Dangulbi-Bagega to Anka Road.
He commended the committee for the visit and described it as a welcome development, as he hoped the Federal Government would pay all the money.
The state government had reconstructed the federal road with the agreement that the Federal Government would to pay the state after completion.
