The Movement of Biafrans in Nigeria (MOBIN) says it will in the next few days make a pronouncement on the candidate of its choice ahead of the November 18 governorship election in Anambra State.
MOBIN said this is in order to save the state from some people it described as political hawks, and to set the whole Biafraland on the path of freedom.
The Movement also reiterated its commitment to finding a political solution to the Biafran struggle for self determination.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Director General of the Movement, Rita Eberechukwu Anigbogu stated that since MOBIN delved into politics months back, “we have carefully studied the political manoeuvres of the so-called political leaders of Biafraland.
“We watched as the Federal Government in a conspiracy with some of those who ought to protect us went after Biafrans in the infamous Afaraukwu/Aba massacre, where many Biafran youths were slaughtered by the Nigerian Army.
“We have listened to the many lies of politicians who are desperate to either remain in power and keep Biafrans in perpetual servitude, or take over power for the same purposes.
“We have watched with utter dismay the flagrant abuse of power in Biafraland by those who have sworn to protect us, the complete disrespect for human life and subsequent killing of our citizens.”
MOBIN reassured its members that it is still committed to good governance as the 2017 Anambra State guber polls gets closer and gathers momentum, adding that as the umbrella political organisation for all Biafrans, it will not fold its hands and allow oppressors of Biafrans to rule.
“Having seen the crop of contestants fielded by the parties, we must state here that Biafrans must take decisions based on party manifesto, candidate's wealth of experience, competence, capabilities, antecedents, and disposition towards the good of Biafrans.”
MOBIN also stressed that Biafraland has remained the most neglected part of Nigeria by the Federal Government, which chose to see Biafrans as a conquered people.
“Consequently, Biafraland has remained undeveloped in infrastructures, and Biafrans, having lost interest in politics, have remained politically naive, despite being the most progressive black people on earth. MOBIN by this entry into politics has the mandate to change this negative situation by instituting core Biafrans in all levels of political participation. Consequently, Biafrans will be governors, lawmakers and administrators at all levels of leadership, and would be able to make laws that will give us the ideal Biafraland of our dreams even as we pursue freedom.”
It called on those who have proposed boycott of the November 18 election in Anambra State to join hands and take the new option, pointing out that all political decisions taken against Biafra in recent times were taken by politicians.
“Whether we like it or not, the surest path to freedom today is the political path. Catalonia, Scotland and Kurdistan are clear and present examples of emerging republics that have operated healthy political rivalry with their oppressor-nations and are coming on fine.”
