Late Biafran hero Philip Effiong
The Biafra Nations Youth League (BNYL) has called on all Biafra campaigners across the world to join them in prayers on November 6 in honour of late Biafran Chief of General Staff, General Philip Effiong who died shortly after illness on November 6, 2003.
Deputy leader of BNYL and Chief Head of Operations, Biafra Broadcasting Service, Ebuta Ogar Takon, in a statement recalled the role Effiong played at the peak of the Biafran crises.
Effiong came into prominence when he assumed leadership of the defunct Biafra Republic and made a historic speech in Lagos that eventually ended the Nigeria-Biafra war.
“BNYL has scheduled programmes for November 6 in remembrance of the role of the Biafran leader,” Takon said, adding that the members, chiefs and elders from within and outside Akwa Ibom State will be gathering in his name in the state.
“We have decided to mark that day as a day of prayers, we are calling on other Biafra campaigners to join us,” he said.
He said the referendum sensitisation campaign earlier scheduled for November 7th in Ikom has been shifted to November 8 due to the event.
