Contrary to the claims of the camp of incumbent Governor Willie Obiano, former Vice President, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, is solidly in support of the candidature of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) standard bearer in the November 18 poll in the state, Mr Oseloka Obaze.

Ekwueme made the declaration yesterday at his country home, Oko in Aguata Local Government Area of the state. He said that that Anambra State since the return of democratic governance in 1999 had been a PDP state and will continue to remain so.

Retrospecting on how PDP came into existence, Ekwueme said: “Anambra is a PDP state and we will take back what belong to us. APGA has been holding what is ours and they will bring down their hand so we can take back what is ours.

“Time had come to unseat Obiano of the All Progressives Grand Alliance and enthrone a PDP government in Anambra State.”

He added APGA was able to saddle the affairs of the state for 12 years because of the protracted crisis in the PDP in the state regretting that Mr Peter Obi rode on the bed of the crisis to deal with the party.

“I am happy Obi is now a PDP member and together we shall now continue with PDP. Time has come for us to take away power from APGA,” the respected elder statesman said.

Ekwueme’s first daughter, Chidi Onyemelukwe, who is a running mate to Obaze, in her speech insisted that APGA’s tenure in the state would be demised in the November 18 poll in the state.

Earlier in his speech, a former governor of the state, Mr Peter Obi, described Obiano's performance as below average, adding that was the reason he was championing his(Obiano's) ouster.

He said: “Obaze would only do one term to give way for Anambra South senatorial district to produce the next governor of the state in respect of the zoning arrangement enshrined in the state’s political system.”

While denying that he did not demand N7bn from Obiano for funding his election in 2013 as being speculated, Obi maintained that he left N75 billion in the coffers of the state for Obiano Addressing the mammoth crowd that gathered at the venue, Obaze ailed Ekwueme for his roles in the enthronement of democracy in the country in 1999.

He assured the people of simultaneous development of the state in all sectors with special focus on education.
