Anambra PDP governorship candidate Oseloka Obaze
Former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, has assured stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that he is a full-fledged party member, affirming that he will be on ground to campaign fully for the party’s candidate, Mr. Oseloka Obaze, in order to restore the gains his administration made in the state.
Speaking at a meeting held in Awka with the party’s Local Government Chairmen and Secretaries, as well as some stakeholders of the party, Obi reminded them that having remained loyal party members, it would be better for them to work and ensure the success of the party at the November governorship election and enjoy the benefits that would follow.
His words, “You can only be visitors in another political party if you decide to abandon PDP to support another governorship candidate and that is why it is better for you to work for a party you have sacrificed to build, which isPDP.
“I am fully in PDP, and I am determined to campaign vigorously to sell our candidate. This campaign will not be done anyhow, it will be aggressive but without mudslinging. We will all be in the campaign together and we will run it like PDP has never done before.
“We know where we left Anambra State and because Obaze was part of the success story and was instrumental to attracting most of the international donor agencies by using his contacts as a diplomat, he will be in a better place to continue from where we stopped.
“I am optimistic that if he becomes the next Governor of the state, Anambra will be better than what it is today. During the campaigns, we will place everything on the table for all to see and this will enable them to make their choice.”
The former Governor, however, said he would continue tobe available to visit any stakeholder whenever invited and whenever the need arises so as to ensure the party’s umbrella is intact, adding that the campaign would be issue-based, devoid of rancour.
Earlier in his speech, Obaze said that it is a contest for every PDP faithful saying that the return of the party in the state will be the return of the state in the mainstream of the country.
He thanked party faithful for their support and acceptance of his candidature promising to give in his best at ensuring that the party gets back on track.
On his part, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Anambra PDP, Dr. ABC Nwosu, said that though there may be crack in the party at the moment, he is optimistic that the party will win theNovember 18governorship election.
“That is what I and my committee are working hard to achieve. We have an excellent candidate and we are working to also get a running mate that will match his class. What we want is the best from what we have. The party will decide on who it will be out of the seven names we already have,” he said.
