Anambra Police Commissioner Garba Umar
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Mr. Garba Umar, on Tuesday urged the people of the state not to entertain fear during the forthcoming polls, saying that all necessary arrangements had been put in place to ensure that the polls go on as scheduled.
Umar, who made the statement during the meeting of Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Security at the state headquarters of INEC in Awka, said that security agencies in the state are determined to ensure that the election is hitch-free.
The CP, who is the chairman of the committee, also gave assurance of police readiness to assist the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to achieve credible, free and fair polls.
He warned any group of people planning to cause problem during the election to desist from it as the police is “battle-ready to deal decisively with any such group.”
Earlier in his speech, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Dr. Nkwachukwu Orji, said that the meeting was part of regular interactions of the commission with security agencies to fine-tune ways that will help maintain security in the forth-coming election.
