As the people of Anambra State get ready for the November 18 governorship election in the state, an Igbo socio-political organisation, Imeobi Igbo Forum, yesterday said that it would in two weeks time organise a debate for all the gubernatorial candidates in the state irrespective of party affiliation.
Addressing journalists in Onitsha, the National Chairman of the forum, Chief Dr. Mike Onugha, said the debate is being set up to enable the candidates tell the people how they intend to pilot the affairs of the state if elected.
He said: “We need somebody that will be responsive to the yearnings of the poor people and that is the person we are going to support.
“The people should know their manifesto, antecedents and how they intend to run the state so that they will know who to support.”
The Forum chairman said that the forum intend to extend the debate beyond Anambra State to other south east states when the need arises saying that their tentacles are spread across the zone.
Onugha urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to work towards conducting a successful election by not disenfranchising eligible voters.
He said: “We will not tolerate rigging, manipulation of results and other electoral malpractices in the election.”
