Party elects young farmer as Anambra governorship candidate

The Independent Democrat Party (ID) Friday elected 35-year-old Mr. Franklin Ndife as the party’s flag bearer for the November 18, 2017 governorship election in Anambra State.

Ndife, who is a farmer by profession and the youngest of the aspirants that filed out for the contest, polled a total of 243 votes to emerge victorious in the yes/no voice vote.

Announcing the result at the end of the voice vote at the party’s secretariat in Awka, the Congress Committee Chairman, Sunday Michael, described the exercise as the most peaceful and organised primary in the state.

He said that the party possesses the ideal potential to eradicate poverty and hunger in the state if the party wins the governorship election.

Addressing party faithful, the victorious Mr. Ndife said he was overwhelmed by the support of the delegates and the party, urging them to extend same during the governorship election in November.

Earlier in his speech, the National Chairman of the party, Mr. Edozie Madu, said that ID’s choice of a youth and a woman as the deputy was driven by its desire to inject new brands into the system and to accord recognition to neglected groups.

In his words, “Independent Democrats is the party that recognises the woman and the youths. Our candidate is the youngest among all the flag bearers in the other parties.

“Anambra would definitely see something different once we win the election.”
