Nigeria’s Afrobeat superstar Femi Kuti last night lost out once more in his quest for a Grammy. Expectations that the sax guru, who had been nominated twice in the past but failed to win would break the calabash this time failed to materialise as the award for World music album for which he was nominated went to Ladysmith Black Mambazo (“Live: Singing for Peace Around the World”) and Gypsy Kings (“Savor Flamenco”).

Femi was nominated for his album, “No Place for My Dream”.

The 56th annual Grammy Awards held at the Nokia Theatre and Staples Center, in Los Angeles, USA, is regarded as perhaps the weirdest ever. From Taylor Swift head-banging at the piano, to a mass wedding officiated by Queen Latifah, and the flashing of too much flesh by Beyonce, it was indeed a night of the bizzare.

Beyonce and husband Jay Z opened the Awards with a raunchy performance of the singer’s new song “Drunk in Love”.

Queen Bey took a leaf out of Rihanna’s book, writhing around on a wooden chair in a leather thong and fishnet tights before getting on all fours and crawling around on stage.

Jay-Z then joined Beyonce on stage and fondled her as the two got up close and personal to sing the song to each other.
