Fifteen houses in the Layin Yan Kaji area of Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, has been gutted by fire, destroying property worth millions of Naira.

According to a witness, Aminu Isa, the incident occurred when a diesel tanker driver parked his leaking vehicle in the street and sought the service of a welder to fix it. The tanker thereafter exploded and affected houses in the street.

“There are some people who keep their diesel tank here. As they were welding, the tanker exploded, the fire started rushing and following the drops of leakages until it affected houses.

“Property have been lost while two persons were injured and are receiving treatment at a specialist hospital.

“It, however, took the intervention of the fire service that attributed the cause to negligence to put the fire off," the witness said.

The fire assistant on duty Joshua Samuel who assisted in putting off the inferno insisted that it was negligence of the people.
