Members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State under the aegis of Fresh Congress Group (FCG),Tuesdayin Awka vowed to resist imposition of any governorship candidate on them by anybody or group.

In a statement made available by the group and signed by the state Chairman, Pastor Emma Obiorah, they advised the stakeholders and National Executive Committee (NEC) to avoid anything that could cost them victory at theNovember 18governorship election saying that PDP had suffered for the past 11 years in the state.

To this end, the state Chairman of the PDP caretaker committee, and former Minister of Health, Prof. ABC Nwosu, who spoke to journalists in Awka said the aim of the new PDP in Anambra State was to return the party to its lost glory.

He said: “Everybody including other parties was aware that Anambra belonged to the PDP.”

However, the fresh group commended the NEC of the party for choosing Prof. Nwosu as the new helmsman of PDP in the state.

The group maintained that what led to the downfall of the party in the state was extortion of money from aspirants by those at the top.

“It is on record that Anambra State remains a PDP state but due to the activities of the former National Executives of the party taking decisions against the wishes of the party faithful and sympathisers in meddling with the choice of the people at the grass-root, PDP lost focus and derailed in the gubernatorial elections since the year 2006.

“In view of the above developments, the PDP grassroots members sat and decided that enough is enough and this time around they will resist the attempt to impose any unpopular candidate against the wishes of the masses.”

The group added that if the anomalies are corrected PDP will surely take their pride of place in Anambra State.
