The Nigeria Police has taken a bold step towards redressing the public’s perception of the institution as corrupt and inefficient.
The Force on Monday in Abuja, the nation’s capital, flagged-off its Public Relations School.
Nigeria’s Police has always been viewed as an institution with penchant for rights abuse and their enormous responsibility for crime prevention and control has remained sub-optimal.
However, while addressing members of the Force at the launch, the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris enjoined the participants to place high premium on the training so as to change the narrative about the Nigeria Police.
“I believe with the launching of this programme, all of you will now put in the focus the importance of the Police to sort of ensure we have a positive image in the eyes of the generality of the public of the citizens of this country.”
The President, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Rotimi Oladele, urged the Nigeria Police to replicate the feats they achieve outside the shores of the Country.
“Every individual is a building block to the image the Nigeria Police has because reputation is radiant, it is contributory and of course it is the aggregate of every officers’ behaviour that euals to the behaviour of the Nigeria Police.”
Former Force Public Relations Officer and Provost, Nigeria Police Public Relations School, Emmanuel Ojukwu believes the training presents the Force with ample opportunity to carry the public along in its drive to purge itself of crime and other vices. (TV360 Nigeria)
