Women groups endorse Chidoka for Anambra governorship election

A coalition of women groups in Anambra State has endorsed a former Aviation Minister, Chief Osita Chidoka, ahead of the November 18, 2017 governorship election in the state.

Chidoka, a frontline contender in the election is contesting on the platform of the United Progressive Party (UPP), whose membership and support, he believes, has rapidly spread across the state.

The women who were in Obosi, Chidoka’s hometown on Monday for a solidarity visit said the endorsement was a product of very wide consultations and extensive appraisal of all the aspirants in the governorship race.

Leader of the group, Lady Oge Agu said, apart from Chidoka’s “experience, proven capacity and track record of performance and integrity in public service,” the decision of the women on whom to back for the election was also informed by his effort in championing the course of the ordinary people as well as his respect and value for women.

She said though the other aspirants are also qualified in the sense that they are citizens of the state, none of them can rival Chidoka in “character, capacity, record of performance and sense of duty in public service.”

The women said it remains on record that Chidoka made Anambra State very proud with his performance as the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) where he turned around, an outfit that was on the verge of being scrapped for low performance, into a world class agency, noting that they are confident that he would in the same vein deliver as Governor of Anambra State.

“We mothers and daughters in Anambra believe in you. We believe in your character, capacity and sense of duty. We have confidence in your ability to deliver based on your proven track record of performance in public service and we are assured that you would not only live up to expectations, but also be a good role model for the next generation in our state”, the woman leaders declared.

They also commended Chidoka for the respect and value he places on women, which he demonstrated by being the first aspirant to appoint a female as campaign spokesperson, a signal that Anambra women would be accorded their rightful place under his administration.

Chidoka thanked the women for their support and assured them of his unflinching commitment to not only turn around the fortunes of the state, but also to run a transparent and all-inclusive government that would redirect the resources of the state for the overall good of the ordinary people.

Chidoka who is currently on tour of his campaign offices and structures in the 326 electoral wards across the state had a brief stop-over at the Obosi Town Hall to further appreciate a gathering of women supporters before continuing with the tours.
