The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has cleared six aspirants and disqualified one, as part of preparations for its primary poll ahead of the November 18 governorship election in Anambra State.
Addressing newsmen at the party’s national secretariat on Friday in Abuja, on the outcome of the screening exercise carried out yesterday, chairman of the screening committee and ex-minister of Police Affairs, Adamu Maina Waziri, said the committee was fair and just.
Presenting the certificates of clearance to the aspirants, Waziri said a former minister of aviation, Stella Oduah, Dr. Alex Obiogolu, Prince John Okechukwu Emeka and Lynda Chuba Ikpeazu were cleared.
He said a business mogul, Ifeanyi Patrick Ubah “barely got cleared but is as good as any other aspirant.”
According to him, Oseloka Henry Obaze was conditionally cleared and awaiting a waiver from the party Friday night to qualify for the race.
The ex-minister however, said Akolisa Ufodike was disqualified from the contest on grounds of dual citizenship.
He explained that Ufodike was disqualified because he was a Canadian citizen but a Nigerian by birth.
“Any aspirant who is not satisfied with the decisions of the screening panel has the right to appeal,” Waziri said. (Daily Trust)
