Christians warned against involvement in spiritism

Christians have been alerted on the dangers of spiritism and warned to avoid any sort of involvement in spiritistic practices.

The warning was given yesterday at the ongoing “Safeguard Your Heart!” District Convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses holding at Ota, Ogun State, South-West Nigeria.

Speaking on ‘Idolatry, Practice of Spiritism’ during a symposium on the theme ‘Guard Your Heart Against “the Works of the Flesh”,’ Olaniyan Noah condemned the practice of people consulting spirit mediums in an attempt to know what the future holds for them.

“Trying to know one’s future through spiritism is one of the things that God hates,” he said, quoting copiously from the Bible. Olaniyan’s talk was based on 1 John 5:21, where the Bible says: ‘Little children, guard yourselves from idols.’

Commenting on contemporary trends, the speaker advised Christians to beware of films that promote spiritism.

“Watching films that promote that promote spiritism is also dangerous to our heart if we truly want to safeguard our heart,” he stated.

He similarly condemned idolatry, saying that those who engage in the practice will not inherit God’s Kingdom.

The convention is holding in Yoruba, but News Express reliably learnt next week’s session will be in English. A convention is scheduled to hold almost every weekend at the Ota Assembly Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses until to December 7, 2012. Throughout Nigeria 250 conventions are scheduled in 32 cities – many of them in indigenous Nigerian languages.

The convention series described as a “heart examination” begins at 9:20 a.m. all three days and admission is free.
