Anambra APC governorship aspirant, Senator Andy Uba
One time member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Charles Odedo, who earlier indicated interest to run for theNovember 18governorship seat in Anambra State under the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) has quit the race to support one of the aspirants, Senator Andy Uba.
Making the declaration at his country home, Nnobi in Nnewi North Local Government area of the state before his supporters, Odedo said his withdrawal was informed by his realisation that Uba stands out amongst the aspirants.
While urging his supporters to join him in supporting Uba, the philanthropist stressed that with Uba at the helm of affairs in the state, the zone would be well represented.
He used the occasion to donated five Sienna cars, two buses and one Toyota Camry to the Idemili North/South Constituency, saying that it was own way of setting the ball rolling for total support for Uba’s governorship project.
Odedo said: “Having checked the capacity of the aspirants filing out for the governorship election, I discovered that Uba is the only aspirant with the capacity and goodwill towin the electionfor APC against the incumbent Governor, Willie Obiano of the All Progressives Grand Alliance.
“This is the hour of truth; let us not deceive ourselves, Senator Uba has the best goodwill and capacity to win this election for our party. I’m popular in Idemili North/South but, is that enough to win a governorship election in a state that has over two million voters?
“We know we arecontesting against an incumbent Governor in this state, we must go with our best. With Uba against whoever victory is assured for APC, but whether Odedo becomes Governor or not, empowerment of my people must continue.
“Therefore, I am stopping my governorship campaigns today to support Senator Andy Uba with all my supporters.”
The former lawmaker who declared his interest to run for the governorship seat of the state on July 10, however, opined that APC would need to reach a consensus on the Anambra poll before the primary election to avoid rancour.
So far, Odedo is the third aspirant on the platform of APC that has stepped down for Uba. Others are Messrs Ralph Okeke and Paul Chukwuma.
