The Administrative Secretary of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Delta State, Mrs. Rose Oriaran-Anthony, has stated that voting is a constitutional right for all eligible citizens.
The INEC official made the statement at a Press Briefing on the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise held in Asaba, Delta State.
According to her, the CVR is an exercise meant for the registration of Nigerian citizens who turned 18 years after the last registration exercise. She also said that it is for those who for one reason or the other, could not registered in the previous exercise, and for those voters with Temporary Voter Card (TVC) but whose names are not on their register due to incorrect data capturing.
She explained that the mid quarter of the exercise that commenced since April 27, 2017 was put on hold for review on July 20, 2017.
“So far, over 21, 000 persons have been registered in the on-going registration.
Delta is among the states approved for additional 12 registration centres in the country. This process will last for seven days,” she said.
She advised people to check their names for possible corrections.
Meanwhile, at the end of the display period, the second quarter of the exercise is scheduled to commence and it will run till the end of scheduled period.
