President Goodluck Jonathan has formally announced the resignation of the embattled National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur. He made the announcement at the on-going National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the ruling party in Abuja, the Nigerian capital.
After the announcement, “Jonathan handed the resignation letter to the National Secretary of the party, Prof. Wale Oladipo,” says a breaking news on The PUNCH website.
“As soon as he announced the resignation, the audience clapped in acceptance. President Jonathan therefore directed the Governor of Cross Rivers State, Mr. Liyel Imoke to move the motion for the acceptance of Tukur’s resignation. Imoke appealed to Tukur not to abandon the party despite his resignation,” the report adds.
This is coming two days after News Express broke the story that Tukur’s fate had been sealed by State Chairmen of the party, who on Tuesday night rose from a crucial meeting in Abuja, with a resolution that he must go.
“With this development, there appears to be no hope of survival for Tukur, who was yesterday abandoned to his fate by the PDP National Working Committee (NWC),” News Express had reported.
