The National Working Committee of the United Progressive Party (UPP) has constituted a five-man committee to oversee the organisation of the 2017 National Convention of the party.

In a statement in Awka and signed by the National Chairman of UPP, Dr. Chekwas Okorie, it indicated that Chief Uchenna Amaku will serve as chairman of the committee, while Chief David Ukeje will serve as secretary.

Other members of the convention committee include Comrade John Ewodage, Chief (Mrs.) Ify Ezenwa and Hon. Chidi Uzoma.

The committee was charged with the responsibility of organising and delivering the one-day national convention of the party at Awka, Anambra State on Thursday, June 29, as well as liaising and cooperating with all officers of the party.

Their duty also includes coordinating the activities of the assignment already given prior to the appointment of the committee.

According to the statement, the terms of reference for the committee include: “To oversee the arrangement and accreditation of delegates to the convention in accordance with the guidelines that will be issued to the committee before the date of the convention.

“To carry out other directives and assignments regarding the 2017 national convention that may emanate from the national chairman of UPP.”

The statement further said that UPP will use the convention period to ratify date for the governorship primary of the party towards the November 18 poll in Anambra State and also name members of the governorship campaign committee for Anambra State.
