Ghanaian international football star Kevin Prince-Boateng has been rushed to hospital after being assaulted in the street.

The much-travelled midfielder who presently plies his trade with Schalke in the German Bundesliga, was attacked by an unknown assailant while enjoying time off in the industrial city of Gelsenkirchen, according to German newspaper Bild. The injuries are believed not to be serious.

News Express reports that Kevin-Prince Boateng on November 19 scored on his return for the Black Stars against the Pharaohs of Egypt in the World Cup qualifying play-off in Cairo.

The former AC Milan of Italy dynamo, who last played for Ghana in 2011 was introduced as a second half substitute as the Black Stars trailed 2-0 through goals by Amr Zaki and Gedo. He side-footed home from inside the six-yard box to reduce the tally and give Ghana an aggregate 7-3 victory to qualify for the Brazil 2014 World Cup.
