The Anambra State chapter of the United Progressive Party (UPP) has condemned politicians form the South-East geo-political zone who abandon their parties for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), saying it is a wrong party for the Igbo as currently being promoted.

In a statement made available to JournalistsMonday,in Awka, signed by its Publicity Secretary, Mr. Uche Amaku, UPP maintained that it speaks of political gullibility for South-East politicians to believe that one of them would step into the position of Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF) from which David Babachir Lawal was suspended.

UPP described as self delusion for some notable politicians from the South-East to hold the erroneous belief that the exit of Lawal has paved the way for the government of President Muhammadu Buhari to correct the lopsided appointments it has sustained in the past two years.

The statement reads: “If our brothers and sisters that rushed into APC have good sense of history or genuine political orientation, they should know that all through the tenure of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, the position of SGF was occupied by persons from the South.

“Therefore expecting that a northern President who has shown defined aversion for Ndigbo and South-East should bend backwards in a show of political repentance to consider any person from the zone, no matter how highly endowed, amounts to political daydreaming and historical blindness.

“The second sign that South-East politicians are not welcome in APC is the recent appointments into boards of parastatals and federal agencies.

“Just as in the distribution of cabinet portfolios, persons from South-East were considered for third rate institutions.

“We gathered that some of these befuddled and expired politicians from the South-East are also nursing the hope that they would be selected as running mate to Buhari in 2019, thereby exposing further, their political blindness.

“But these shameless ‘Food Is Ready’ politicians would have the worst disappointment in their lives, because, not only will Buhari not run again for presidency, the make-up of APC does not envisage a front row presence for Igbo politicians.”

UPP further said that the defeat that await APC in the South-East would be seen in the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra State, adding that whenever the rerun election for Anambra Central Senatorial holds, UPP candidate, Dr. Flint Obiekwe, will emerge effortless as winner.

The party, however, regretted the shabby treatment being extended to potential voters in the South-East by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), alleging that while under-aged voters, particularly in internally displaced persons camps are being pampered to register, few and malfunctioning equipment were sent to South-East to discourage potential voters.

The statement added: “Under UPP, the South-East and other marginalised sections of the country have decided to take their political destiny into their own hands pending the 2019 general election when issues of self determination, fiscal federalism and restructuring will determine Nigeria’s future.”
