The Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, has assured the management and staff of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) of special allowances different from their salaries for a job well done on the Ajaokuta-Onitsha Waterway.
While addressing the staff on Friday at its Headquarters in Lokoja, Kogi State, at the launch of the Waterway, Amaechi commended their efforts and skills in the handling of equipment for the dredging of the Waterway.
“I am impressed with what I am seeing here and it makes me feel so glad. The good news is, it is being done by you for N24 billion instead of N64 billion. You have done a very great job for saving us about N40 billion.
“That is why there should be provision for 13 month salary for you because you have saved us much money. I will ensure that more money is allocated to you in the next budget. You need to be appreciated more for your commitment,” the Minister stated.
Amaechi added: “If we are setting aside the billions of naira which you have saved for us, it means there is a need for us to treat you specially by providing bonus for you to encourage you, so that you can continue to do the dredging.”
