Anambra Govt. drags governorship aspirants to court over signage fees

Chief Godwin Ezeemo is among guber aspirants sued by ANSAA

The managing Director of Anambra State Signage and Advertising Agency (ANSAA), Mr. Jude Emecheta, yesterday saidthat his agency had served Chief Godwin Ezeemo who is aspiring to governthe state on the platform of Peoples Progressive Alliance (PPA) a court summon at the Awka High Court for displaying his campaign posters on illegal surfaces in the city without paying the prescribed fee.

He said that though the aspirant has been sued, he has responded by saying that it was unconstitutional to sue him.

Emecheta explained that the law establishing ANSAA provides that no person, agency, local government or organisation can put up a structure without paying the mandatory fees, adding that every Local Government Area in the state is a member of ANSAA and partners the state government to share the revenue accruing from it.

According to him, the Agency had also served another governorship aspirant, and member, representing Anambra East in the National Assembly, Hon. Tony Nwoye a demand notice on the posters he displayed during the Mothers’ Sunday.

Nwoye is aspiring to govern the state on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Emecheta said the agency had given him two weeks within which to remove them according to law.

“The agency is on the trail of those who pasted the posters of the state Governor, Chief Willie Obiano announcing his second term ambition, as well as putting up a bill board saying there is no vacancy in the Government House.

“Though the Agency had removed the posters and dismantled the Bill Board conspicuously erected along the Awka end of Enugu-Onitsha expressway, the Governor has denied knowledge of the Bill Board and posters when reminded that he was flouting the law,” the ANSAA boss stated.

According to Emecheta, the Governor had said he had not started campaigns and would pay to the agency for permission to have his posters and Bill Boards displayed when he is ready.

He said that no amount of intimidation, litigation by politicians or organisations will deter the Agency from doing its job and raking in revenue for the state government.

Emecheta advised politicians in the state to be responsible to the people by keeping the state clean and respect the law they are coming to protect in the event of their winning.
