2017 governorship election: Don’t sell your voters cards, ASA-USA warns Anambrarians

With theNovember 18, 2017governorship election in Anambra drawing near, the Anambra State Association USA (ASA-USA Inc.) has called on the people of the state to avoid selling their voters cards for any sort of flashy inducement saying that the association is ready to expose any candidate that fails to play by the rules.

ASA-USA Inc., an umbrella association for all Anambra State citizens resident in the United States of America, warned the people not to mortgage the life of the citizens and the future of the citizens through an unwise action.

While reminding the people of the importance of the election to the heart and soul of the state, the group observed that the task at hand demands that all hands must be on deck to ensure that only the best candidate is voted into place to serve as the next Executive Governor of the state.

In a statement signed by Mr. Michael Iloegbunam and Mr. Nnamdi Ozoh, National President and National Secretary respectively of the Association, the body stated that as a watchdog organisation, it would not hesitate to expose any candidate, political party or group that fails to play according to the rules during and after the election.

The statement reads in part: “Anambra State Association USA Inc. (ASA-USA Inc.) is evidently aware of the forthcoming gubernatorial election for our beloved home, Anambra State. The election as always is about the heart and soul of our state Anambra, the life of its citizens and the future of our children born and unborn.

“The seriousness of the task at hand demands that all hands must be on deck to ensure that only the best candidate is voted into place to serve as the next Executive Governor of Anambra State. However, we will be unable to elect the best individual to serve Anambra State, without the electorates understanding the candidate's platforms/programs and visions for our Anambra State.

“In other to help educateAnyi bu ndi Anambraon the real personalities that wants to be our Governor for the next four years, ASA-USA Inc. will love to see a platform where the candidates of the various political parties will articulate their positions and visions for our beloved state.

“ASA-USA Inc. is calling on our fellowNdiAnambrato ensure that they come out on the day of election and cast their votes. Every voter must insist that their vote counts. “Say no to anyone who wants to buy your voters cards for cash or any other gift. Governorship election is not a joke; we must not sell the position for a handful of cash.
We are stating it clearly here that as a “watchdog organisation,” ASA-USA Inc. will not hesitate to call-out and bring to public attention any candidate, group or political party whose actions and conducts enable or cause the disturbance of the peace and welfare ofNdiAnambra during and after this election period.”

ASA-USA Inc. which is also non-profit, civic, educational and charitable organisation stressed its readiness to work with other parties to ensure the enthronement of equity, justice, sound public policies and democratic process in Anambra State.

The group further prayed for God’s grace for the people to elect the right person with wealth of experience, wisdom and ability to govern the state.
