In a communiqué signed and issued to journalists by 14 of the Local Government Chairmen of the party after an emergency meeting in Awka, Wednesday, they accused the party Chairman of running the chapter aground and in so doing, has proved his inability to run the affairs of the party.
The aggrieved Chairmen in an effort to drive home their anger nominated Mr. Edwin Nwokike to take up the seat in acting capacity with a view to leading the party to victory in the forth comingNovember 18governorship election in the state.
They accused the chairman of high handedness citing the removal of party Chairmen at the local government level at will for no just reason as example.
The communiqué reads: “He has been flouting the constitution of the party, running the party like a private estate.
“He hardly convenes meetings and he is too autocratic, arrogant and undemocratic.
“He acts without consulting anybody, removes party chairmen at the local government level without recourse to the constitution as if they are hired to be fired by him.
“He is hardly remorseful and does not take advice. He also sees members of the State Executive Committee (SEC) of the party as stooges who should lick his boot.
“He has run the chapter aground using it as a tool for merchandise.”
The communiqué added that for instance, he went into negotiations with a governorship aspirant without consultations with the SEC against the party’s guidelines that all aspirants must be given equal playing ground.
“We vehemently object to his activities and believe strongly that his continued administration of the party in the state will affect its chances of producing the right candidate that will win the November 18, 2017 governorship election for the party.
“In view of the above, we hereby pass a vote of no confidence on the state Chairman, Dr. Sylvester Igwilo and in his place, nominate Mr. Edwin Nwokike from Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State who will lead our great party to victory.”
According to the aggrieved Chairmen, the chairman’s attitude has jeopardized the goodwill the party has enjoyed in its recent membership drive.
When contacted on phone, Igwilo said that he was already aware of a meeting held by some people in Awka.
In his words, “Some people met somewhere in Awka and passed a vote of no confidence on my administration in the state chapter of UPP. The people are fake and not members of the party.”
