The Abia State Government has directed security agencies in the state to ensure that those who set fire to Ugwueke Secondary School in Bende Local Government Area, are arrested.
Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Commissioner for Education, Matthew Enyinnaya Clinton, said in a statement made available to News Express in Umuahia that unknown persons set ablaze, the block housing the Principal’s Office, Science Laboratory and Library of the school.
“Abia State Ministry of Education uses this medium to condemn this dastardly act unleashed on one of our schools in Bende Local Government Area in which unknown arsonists set ablaze, one of the blocks housing the Principal’s Office, Science Laboratory and Library of the school.
“We hereby urge the security agencies to move in immediately and fish out the culprits of this dastardly act so that it can serve as deterrent to others,” the statement read.
According to Clinton, the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ikechi Mgbeoji, has directed the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs. P. Amuta, to commence immediate repairs of the affected block to enable the school conduct the 2017 West African Senior School Certificate Examination, successfully.
